2020 & 2021 SEASON
2020 Season - Obviously very affected by Covid Restrictions - Meetings and conversations were all about Regulations and how to operate Zoom! rather than Bowls. We played a few internal events but none against other Clubs. Don`t want another season like that!
****************************************************
2021 Season - Despite Covid we managed almost a full season of Mixed fixtures. It was a slow start with members still being cautious, but by the end of the season we were able to play as normal.
The Kent Cup v Stansted (which we hold at present) came early in the season and was reduced to a one leg friendly later on.
The Fish Cup v Saffron Walden was played as normal against Saffron Walden. Pleased to say we won that back after a long period of losing.
The Hertford Shield was played as normal, but although we held Hertford to a one point deficit at home, we were well beaten away.
TO hold 2 out of the 3 Trophy matches is classed as a `Win` and we have an extra one The Riches Shield against Sawbridgeworth for the 2022 season.
Our Ladies Team are the present champions of the Ladies Friday afternoon League (From the 2019 season). During 2021 they regularly played all their matches for over half the season. Unfortunately, other Clubs were not quite as enthusiastic because of Covid and got behind in their fixtures. Because of this the League decided to suspend the 2021 season and try again next season.
The Men`s Essex & East Herts Seniors Bowls League played full fixtures throughout 2021 but with a reduced number of players ( 2xTriples). The Club completed and enjoyed all their matches.
The Internal KO Competitions were fully completed. Martin Clark was prominent in most of these. However, Two new names appeared as finalists and winners during 2021 -
Russell Cox and Duncan Burrett. Well done to all involved in difficult circumstances.
The Monday Afternoon Hong Kong Pairs League was won by Russell Cox & Martin Clark -
With Covid reducing the number of members actually playing, the fixtures became quite congested , but well done to all for completing them.

Following on from this success, a statement from Brian Hurst (2019 Secretary) about...
The Ladies Seniors Friday afternoon league:
I would like to update you on the magnificent run of success that our Senior Ladies team, captained by Sheila Common, are having since entering the above tournament for the first time this year. The format is for 1 x Rink of Senior Ladies played as the name suggests on a Friday afternoon, on a home and away basis.
They have currently played eight games out of a projected fourteen games and have won seven of them, a really fine achievement considering the limited amount of lady players available for selection. This high standard they have set is going to be difficult to maintain with the number of other events that they are involved in and they have another six games to play, four of those away.
So let's show them our support. Have a look in your Fixture book to see where they are playing
2019 WINNERS OF THE LADIES EAST HERTS FRIDAY AFTERNOON LEAGUE
What a year this has been. Not content with the Mixed Team winning the Kent Cup and being runners-up for the Danial Robinson Trophy, our ladies Four have topped the lot by winning the fiercely contested Ladies East Herts Friday league. I hope you will join me in congratulating these wonderful ladies.
From the ‘Fab Four’ to the ‘Four Tops’ by Brian Hurst (2019 Secretary)
After fourteen hard fought games, starting back in early May our Senior Ladies have emerged as worthy winners against seven equally tenacious teams. Every Friday afternoon during the past fourteen weeks has seen them battling away somewhere in the name of Havers Park Bowls Club and in all weathers.
Friday 9th August at Havers Park saw their final game to be played, against Elsenham, the League leaders, in what turned out to be the deciding match and which Havers won by a considerable margin, in front of an over-excited group of supporters. The coolest were the ladies themselves who had held their game together remarkably well, despite one of the Elsenham ladies collapsing on the Green. Duncan to his disappointment did not get to use the defibrillator and thankfully all was well after a short break.
Nobody knew what the position was at the finish because there were a number of other games going on. We knew that Havers were in the frame for a high finish, so it was an anxious time waiting for the results to be finalised. Not, I hasten to add for the ladies who took themselves off to Hertford for the Shield match the next day.
On Tuesday 13th the results dropped into Sheila’s email box. They had WON! Some achievement considering it was the first time of entering the League and with so few ladies to select from.
Well done the TEAM - Photo - Jo Jolley - Sheila Common - Elizabeth Rosair - Freda Edmondson
You deserve all the plaudits you have received.

2019 DANIEL ROBINSON CUP RUNNERS-UP
Congratulations to Bishops Stortford Bowls Club for winning the Daniel Robinson Cup, followed closely in second by our own valiant team from Havers Park.
As Brian Hurst rightly put it, "we were outright winners on the day". Well done everyone who contributed to such a wonderful day and a special thank you to the sponsors, Daniel Robinson & Sons.
